Whether you are simply looking to get the fundamentals down and be able to play some tunes for fun, or you have eyes on becoming a professional musician, a lesson approach is always designed specifically for you and your own guitar playing goals. Everyone learns at their own pace, therefore each individual Guitar Lessons OC student is taught at their own personal pace. Your lesson plan is designed not only for you but with your direct input, with your own specific goals in mind. The idea is to teach you how to play the music you love with results that exceed your own expectations. With GLOC, I am dedicated to making learning how to play an instrument an enjoyable and fulfilling experience for you, as opposed to it being tedious, confusing and frustrating. No matter what level your playing ability is at when you begin lessons with GLOC, at the end of the day my goal is to try to help people find the same joy through playing music that I have experienced myself since the age of 13. I have been playing professionally for 25 years now, and this feeling of joy and fulfillment is the reason I am still here doing it now.
Beginner lessons will introduce you to the basic fundamentals of guitar, as well as help you begin to develop an understanding of the overall structure of music and how it is created. These fundamentals range from learning the names of the strings and how to hold a pick, to learning all of the open position major and minor chords which a huge majority of the blues, rock and pop music of any era are based. I will help you move as swiftly as possible towards being able to play along with the music you love, as well as understanding what you are hearing on a deeper level. As much attention is paid to fun as is paid to progress, in the interest of making learning guitar as enjoyable and rewarding as it should be.
Intermediate lessons will provide you with a deeper-dive into the finer details of all aspects of playing technique, in order to help you refine your ability to pick efficiently, fret efficiently, increase your dexterity and speed, as well as bring you deeper into the world of soloing and improvisation. Songs of a more challenging level will be learned in their entirety, note-for-note, while close attention is paid to you being able to play those songs at as high a level as possible. There is a difference between playing a piece of music “correctly”, and playing it WELL.
Advanced lessons will help you as a more experienced player truly hone your playing technique and improvisational skills. I will also help you train your natural ear with interval training, to make your ear is as fast and as accurate as it can be. I will get involved in equipment consultation with you, I will even show you the fundamentals of how to get work as an instrumentalist in the music business. The main goal with advanced lessons is to help you become a well-rounded, versatile musician prepared for any professional musical situation in which you wish to become involved.
